He’s an avid musician and guitar player, but he’d never really had a room devoted to that part of his life. Then there was this space.
Considered the sunroom of the house, it faces south-southeast and is filled with beautiful natural light. With its high ceiling, angled windows and surprisingly great acoustics, this intimate little room felt almost meant for making music, relaxing and occasionally gathering with friends.
But first, he needed somewhere to actually play.
The funky bench was chosen very intentionally. The height, width and firmness give him the support he needs while holding and playing his guitar. Across from it, we deliberately chose a sofa with soft, rounded curves. Something straight and angular would have felt too harsh against all those interesting windows. This lower, curved silhouette feels welcoming and settles beautifully into the room.
Then we had a little fun. The modern abstract lumbar pillow, made in a Kravet Couture fabric, gives the sofa an unexpected contemporary moment. It’s definitely a statement piece in this intimate space!
We knew we wanted another chair near the window, but scale was everything. It couldn’t overwhelm the room, and we wanted something with enough personality to become a bit of a conversation piece. Because after all, where there’s music, people tend to gather.
That tranquil sage green became the thread that quietly ties everything together, especially in the grasscloth wallcovering, which is truly one of the pièces de résistance of the room. The texture adds so much warmth and depth without competing with everything else happening in the space.
And then there’s the rug. It was already here.
Once the new design began coming together, we realized it worked beautifully, so why replace it? I love when something a homeowner already owns finds an entirely new life within a redesigned room. Good design doesn’t mean everything has to be new.
In the end, this little sunroom finally became something much more personal: a place to play, relax, gather, and make music.
And sometimes the best room in the house is the one that finally gives a passion somewhere to live.
