Mid Century Mix

The before story here is that the homeowner had blue walls and brown everything else … dark brown sectional sofa, medium brown rug, brown wooden furniture… everywhere. So when their boys were moving out, I got a phone call that – IT WAS TIME!
.
They wanted to update and refresh their family room to be airy and sophisticated to reflect their empty nest lifestyle, and to complement their NEW screened-in porch. To be a room that gives a sense of sitting outside, while being indoors. So we decided to keep a whisper of sky blue paint as the foundation for the new décor, for the room to feel relaxing and uplifted, contemporary and cozy, and be inside while communicating to the outside.
.
The colors that came to play with our pale blue were soft taupe, teal and pops of orange. Using those, we commissioned a custom piece of artwork with local decorative artist Dee Lenehan to be the focal point above the mantel, pulling all of these uplifting hues together just beautifully!

Our palette was also repeated in the chevron pattern fabric on the custom made bench. We loved this piece because it discreetly allowed for extra seating while entertaining, being wide enough for seating on both sides, and smartly does not block the view of the television!

The adjacent wall to the suzani, showcases another antique– a huge moroccan carved metal disc which would have normally been a tabletop. We repurposed this piece to serve as a piece of wall art suspended by metal mounting brackets, custom made by a local artist. It repeats the circular pattern and balances with the large textile.
