Do you really need designer furniture?
YOU’RE FINALLY TAKING THE LEAP and hiring a designer
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOU?
You may ask yourself, “Do I need to replace all of my furniture in order for this new design to work?”
The answer is — NO.
I get this question all too frequently. My clients’ being under the notion that EVERYTHING needs to change in order for it to look updated and stylish. Not necessarily!
In fact, I like to intentionally include much of what already works for a household. We will have several opportunities to purchase new and custom along the way. But, if we have pieces that can be repurposed into the new design, even better.
DESIGNER vs. RETAIL vs. REPURPOSE
As they say, there’s a perfect spot for everything. Same goes for sourcing opportunities for repurposing, going custom (designer) or buying retail. Sure, there are perfect intentions for buying retail:
- range of options
- availability
- pricing
- access to trends
And then there may be the perfect piece that already fits your lifestyle. It just may need a little love, and that’s where re-upholstering, refinishing with new fabric and color, can take a once dated piece, and make it jive perfectly with all of our new design work. What I like about repurposing yours or found pieces, is that it gives a second life by adding:
- character
- history
- storytelling
- drama
So when do we know there is a need for something custom? That’s the fun part. This when we need to:
- custom fit
- specify material
- maximize space
- increase functionality
