Interior Design for your Heart and Mind

These clients came to me wanting to renovate their bathroom. The couple are avid travelers and LOVED the idea of having a bathroom that was organic and spoke to them of the place they had stayed while they were visiting the American Northwest. Their goal was to have a bathroom retreat that made them feel like they were on vacation all the time. This sentiment was carried out in the natural materials I chose for them. The porcelain tile in the shower resembled Montana slate, while the stacked stone on the front of that super jetted tub called out that naturist vibe.
The rustic alder cabinetry was a contrasting warm element that showed off its knots and visible cracks, to be perfectly complimented by the green marble countertop. OH THE WONDERFUL veins in this slab… my heart glowed when I saw it, and knew how perfect the hue would be with all of the elements currently in the design!
The onyx vessel sinks atop this marble wonder look as if they are growing right out of it (but they don’t; a totally separate purchase!) perfect find!! The overall footprint and structure of the cabinetry was intentional — tall, tons of storage, but with presence to have that hovering, landscape feeling.
Let’s talk for a second about the bathing elements in this bathroom. It was a must have for both of them to have this particular chromatherapy bathtub as they are both very athletic people and love a good soak after riding. For him, his major checklist item was to have a rainhead faucet and most importantly, his steam shower. It’s all of that and then some. It is also a chromatherapy and stereo shower, where lovely lighting and music can be controlled from an app on his phone. He can even see his wall mounted tv from the bench in the shower;) Technology was a huge factor in this master bath.
From incorporated outlets inside the cabinets, to shower systems that can be programmed from the homeowners’ tablet or phone. So coming home to a warm shower is actually on her iCal, and he can enjoy watching the game on the LED which is mounted above their new massage-jet bathtub.
Last little fun fact — THE FLOORING. We ended up installing a hand scraped “real wood” floor instead of my initial suggestion of using tile “that looks like wood”. They were very insistent that their earth based environment needed to have the warmth of wood under their feet! And how wonderfully it added grounding to that subtle blue green paint, making it a pure relaxation zone.
